The "Go To" online music service for emerging artists

About Grooveshark

Grooveshark was founded in 2006 by Sam Tarantino and Josh Greenberg with the sole mission of providing a digital music environment to help bridge the growing gaps between artists, consumers, and those in between who distribute, market and promote music. Grooveshark exists to create means for consumers to listen to exactly the music they want easily and without restriction while combating piracy and generating revenue, compensation, and tools for artists, labels, and content partners of all sizes.

As one of the largest global on-demand and music discovery services with over 15 million files and 30 million users, Grooveshark is an ecosystem that brings together music fans, bands, music labels, and brands. By creating new revenue sources for the music industry, innovative marketing opportunities for artists, and strategic data products for music and brand managers, Grooveshark cuts into music piracy by helping everyone—from fan to band—make the most of online music.

About the Founders

Sam Tarantino, the founder and CEO of Grooveshark, came up with the idea for Grooveshark while studying Economics at the University of Florida. He had become distraught with the current situation in the music industry while he was pursuing his lifelong goal to be a successful musician by writing, playing and recording music. After meeting Josh Greenberg, who was pursuing a Business Administration degree at UF and brought his technical background in web development to the table, the two launched Grooveshark in 2007.

Sam now oversees overall business strategy, licensing and key partnerships, and corporate development for Grooveshark.

Josh, serving as CTO and co-founder, leads Grooveshark's engineering, infrastructure, creative, data, and community teams, coordinating high-level strategy with technological implementation.

Testimonials

"As an artist, Grooveshark has been my most valuable online resource by far. Since I began working with them, my online following and buzz has increased remarkably - I get more plays in a week now than I did in my whole career up to this point. My Facebook fanbase is growing faster than ever, Twitter followers are coming in by the truckload, and my online sales are almost five times what they used to be. The Grooveshark statistic system lets me see which types of listeners like which types of songs. The feedback I get is the next best thing to physically playing live shows and talking with fans. The staff is unparalleled when it comes to service, individual attention, communication (a rarity in the music world), and the fact that I know they genuinely love my music and want to push me to the next level. I love the site as an artist and a listener. Grooveshark is the real thing."

"Grooveshark is the most artist friendly music service I've dealt with. Not only is the platform awesome, but these people truly care about artist development and helping listeners discover new music. As a small label, having Grooveshark get behind one of your bands is priceless."
Theo Aronson, Oh La La Records
"My manager told me about Grooveshark, so I checked it and thought it was cool how they had their platform set up. We started working together last spring in 2010 and it has been great as they have helped me target my music to potential fans of mine. I have definitely seen more people on my music now especially in the college scene. I mean fans can go to Grooveshark, search music, start playing, add more music and even click the radio option that plays random songs based off the songs someone has heard, and discover new music, which is how many fans on Grooveshark have found my music. #THANKYOUFORBEINGAFRIEND"

"In a landscape where majors are fighting the inevitable reality of a new era, I'm proud Sun fosters a forward thinking direction. Grooveshark is an innovative team that we quickly found harmony with and are excited to lock arms with."

"After partnering with Grooveshark on a few different promotions, I started to see GS users mobilize on some of the great but unknown talent I work with, I felt an immediate reaction to the songs we were putting up as well as traffic from the GS listeners. Grooveshark is fantastic at getting the spotlight on bands that NEED to be listened to..."
Vinnie Fiorello, Less Than Jake
"We are very excited about our new partnership with Grooveshark and are big fans of both the listening platform and analytic tools they provide. We look forward to starting this great relationship with the Little Hell premiere."
Vic Trubowitch, New Media at Vagrant Records
"A lot of musicians and especially labels are quick to hate on any platform that provides music for free. But for those of us who have really thought it through and actually used streaming sites like Grooveshark as a marketing tool, we know the benefits of being able to share our music with the masses, and that true fans still buy copies, and show up at shows. The feedback I've gotten from Grooveshark listeners has helped me incredibly."
Dion Roy
