Grooveshark is a positive force in the careers of many musicians, a source of income for many labels, and a daily necessity for millions of music lovers. We are excited to help make sure that music — as an art and as an industry — continues to grow. We are dedicated to creating the best music service for individuals to discover, listen to and share the music they love, while also respecting the rights of copyright owners. Read on, to learn how you can get your songs on Grooveshark or how you can report infringing material.
The songs on Grooveshark are provided to us by three sources: a) record labels, b) independent artists, acting without the representation of a label, and c) users. Today, Grooveshark has licenses to distribute the catalog of over 1,000 labels as well as the repertoire of more than 25 thousand fully independent artists, and we work hard to expand that catalog every day. We also have millions of users worldwide that upload song files for which they have the right to distribute. We work tirelessly to secure the rights to every sound recording ever created in hopes of guaranteeing that our users can access the songs they love and discover new music previously unavailable on other services.
In some cases, users may upload a specific recorded version of a file, or a file from a specific territory that they don't have the rights to. According to Grooveshark's Terms of Service, users are responsible for ensuring they have the right to make uploaded sound files available. When we are properly notified of content that infringes on the rights of others, we act expeditiously to remove such content from our service. If a user's account is repeatedly associated with infringing material, that user's "upload privileges" will be revoked. There is currently no method for reinstating those privileges, but this may not be the case in the future.
If you're an artist or label that believes a sound file has appeared on Grooveshark.com without the proper licensing and would like it removed, please submit a Takedown Request here. This webform tool was built to simplify and expedite the Takedown process as much as possible
