Join the revolution

Where we're from...

One fateful, partly-cloudy day in 2006, Sam Tarantino was strolling down University Avenue in beautiful Gainesville, Florida. Sam needed a few extra bucks and, like every college student at one time or another, decided that selling plasma would be the easiest way to earn them. During his walk, he passed a used record store and read their tagline — "Buy, Sell, and Trade Music." It wasn't much later that Sam, woozy and $20 richer, had the brilliant idea that formed the foundation of Grooveshark. Why can't we create a digital equivalent — a sustainable music ecosystem that benefits everyone involved?

Grooveshark has grown up quite a bit in these past four years. We now employ 130 brilliant minds, have a periphery office in New York City, and, if you don't mind us saying, grow more awesome by the minute. We figure you're reading this because you're interested in joining the team. Awesome! Here's what you need to know:

Why we're different...

At Grooveshark, we believe that everyone should have access to the music they love without hassle. In a world where free flowing, all-you-can-experience content is the norm, Grooveshark set out to provide a legal alternative to piracy — giving the fans the music they love and artists the compensation they deserve.

Want to join us?

Do you love music? Are you good with computers? A clever writer? Tech-savvy? A voracious learner? Do you tweet more than five times a day? Are you the smartest person you know?

If so, we want you on the Grooveshark Team! We're looking for enthusiastic, inspired, creative people to join us as we build the world's best streaming music platform. Work with the brightest of your peers to develop new products, write innovative code, design graphics for our user interface, or enhance our web presence.

Still in school? Not a problem. We're always looking to bring in bright new talent to our internship program. We currently offer unpaid internships for work experience or college credit, and a successful internship could lead to a part- or full-time position at Grooveshark.

Our interns gain valuable real-world experience from industry professionals, enjoy a flexible schedule, and eat three square meals a day.

Benefits

The biggest benefit of working with Grooveshark is flexibility — your ideas and creativity are expected to flow effortlessly into execution. If that's not enough, we also offer:

  • Delicious food. If you work here, whether you're an intern or full-time employee, you have access to free snacks and fresh meals, prepared by our amazing in-house chef.
  • A snazzy office. Grooveshark's office overlooks downtown Gainesville, directly above Dragonfly Sushi and across the street from the Hippodrome Theatre. Our office environment is open and collaborative — no cubicles allowed.
  • A laid back environment. We expect you to laugh out loud, at least once a day. Like, it's mandatory.
  • A chance to be creative. We don't stifle creativity — we foster it. Grooveshark runs on the collective creativity of each talented individual on the team.
  • Flexible hours. You make your own schedule — some Groovesharkers work mornings, some work evenings. Everything is up to you and your individual scheduling needs. Many Grooveshark employees have classes or other jobs, and we make sure work here is always on your own time.
  • Health insurance and paid time off for full-time employees, plus opportunities to hone your craft at national conferences.
  • Company outings. Come and get to know your co-workers. The beer's on us (and in us)!
  • A team as smart as you are. We only accept employees of the highest caliber who can enhance Grooveshark's product offering and brand image. But we don't equate raw talent with experience, and we value talented individuals who are eager to learn and enhance their natural abilities, whether in design, programming, or other fields.
  • Expand your abilities through collaboration. The Grooveshark environment is open and collaborative, and each work day consists of learning from and engaging with the people around you to implement powerful ideas and create beautiful products. Decision making at Grooveshark is decentralized, and each person in the office is not only expected to contribute their unique set of abilities toward making Grooveshark better — they're also expected to accept constructive criticism.

Gainesville rocks!

As far as we're concerned, Gainesville is one of the coolest cities in the lower 48. We're proud to say that we've grown up with Gainesville, and watched it grow from an active college town to an up-and-coming entrepreneurial superpower.

Grooveshark's office is located in beautiful, downtown Gainesville, seconds from the Hippodrome theatre and other night-life hot spots, and minutes from the University of Florida, Payne's Prairie, and other local attractions.

Are you a nature lover? You'll love Gainesville's bike trails and nature preserves. Want to beat the heat? Float down the cool, spring-fed Ichnetucknee river on a summer day.

We're an hour and a half from the beaches of St. Augustine and Jacksonville, and two hours from the amusement park meccas of Tampa and Orlando.
