So what’s up with Grooveshark VIP?

Ben Westermann-Clark August 20th, 2009

Last week we launched a new service called Grooveshark VIP, hooking users into the best that we have to offer. Some folks have been asking exactly what makes VIP users so special. Other than helping support Grooveshark and being generally very attractive people, what are the benefits?

1) No advertisements on Grooveshark. As much as we enjoy delivering your eyeballs to our corporate sponsor overlords, we feel like pure, uninterrupted connection to the music is more important. VIPs never see any advertisements, getting the full experience in all its musical glory.

2) Cool kids on the block. Grooveshark VIPs get first access to all the newest and truest we have to offer. From exclusive features and options to brand new product launches, you get the funnest music toys on the web before anyone else.

3) Get your voice heard. While you’re trying out all of Grooveshark’s awesome new features, be sure to tell us what you think. VIP users not only get priority support from our team, but as a tester of what’s new we really take your opinion to heart.

So help us out, and we’ll take the best care of you we know how. Got anymore questions? Leave a comment or ask us directly on Twitter.

  1. Everyone should get VIP just to get access to 2.0 Monday. It is awesome! You guys will love it. Just pay the $30, get 2 months free, and enjoy your 2.0 :)

  2. i don’t like pay models and so I hope that’s not what this is moving towards, but i support what you’re doing and I absolutely love your site. So i’m dropping some moolah to chip in. But, i think the VIP tag is kind of hokey and not suited for this crowd…imho

  3. We don’t intend to ever charge a penny for the basic Grooveshark offering–free streaming music on the web. For add-ons and extras, however, we feel OK about asking for a small (helpful) amount. And we’re hungry. :)

TK, what would you recommend we call VIP? We’re always open to suggestions, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Also, thanks so much for your kind words and helping support a service you like.

    Thanks,
    Ben

  4. The previous interface was already incredible, didn´t look at all like a web app, it was almos like a desktop software.

The new VIP is definitely worth the 3 bucks. But it still lacks a iPhone or a Symbian App. I´d go straight to a yearly subscription.

  5. on the suggestions topic i am considering becoming VIP but i feel i need a little more info about what is different between grooveshark 1.0 and 2.0 and all the other stuff you get with it but don’t get me wrong i absolutely love love love the site and will probably still ship in to help you guys ;)

  6. What I would LOVE to see for VIP’s is a way to access the site from my mobile phone. Right now I can kinda do that with Skyfire - but I’d love to see a mobile app for Windows Mobile, Blackberry and iphone.

  7. We should be called ‘Hammerheads’!

  8. I personally am happy to become a Grooveshark VIP. I’ve used the service so much over the past year, $3 a month is a no brainer to help support a service I really enjoy.

My only question is, “Where’s the iPhone app?”

  9. Does 2.0 do anything to improve the situation with duplicate albums and songs?

  10. I agree with Jeremy. I have been using Grooveshark nonstop at work for the past month and had no problem supporting what Grooveshark is all about. I’ll be honest it’s weird but I wouldn’t pay if it was a pay only service. But I have no problem paying $30 to help.

  11. I agree with Jeremy, I am extremely happy with Grooveshark and would definitely pay the $3 but I als o would like the iPhone app.

  12. Love the new Grooveshark, can’t wait for the iPhone app!

There seems to be a problem though if you guys are not aware but the songs are not loading for me? Is this becuase the source has changed??

  13. I love this service and I got the VIP!
I think it would be cool if you made it more social? At the moment its very self centred, I’d like it to be more last.fm which is why I still use it as well as Grooveshark.

  14. I’m loving VIP :)

  15. iphone app..bleeh!

u guys gotta get a symbian app out! still way more symbian phones then iphone so… Grooveshark ROCKS!

  16. I’ve just become a VIP member. Maybe AAA membership “Access All Areas” would be more suitable?

Don’t forget the app for Google Android Phones too, It’s getting bigger every minute!

    TY

  17. i’m a happy Grooveshark VIP, great Interface and worth the money. but give us an iphone or android app - fast. a version for jailbreaked iphones would be great… perhaps a repo for VIPs only?

  18. Well, as one of the only music services of this kind to work in Mexico, you already have my vote of confidence. I’m really interested in upgrading to VIP, to justify the cost I’d like to have access to this using my phone (TreoPro running WinMo 6.1), as I’m out on the streets more than on my desk. Already tried Groovefish in XDA dev forums, but it’s still some ways off in the future.

The VIP promo touts mobile music, but no info is put forth on the details section. Care to elaborate?

    Thanks again for the service.

  19. WEll all Iphone and Android hypers should get an app!
but not before the biggest mobile platform there is gets one.. Symbian… where the hell is a symbian app?

yet i feel that creating a good API and let developers play with that could take some serious load of your hands!
