How Can I Help You?

Ben Westermann-Clark February 11th, 2009

Calling all music lovers, calling all friends! We’re always trying to improve ourselves so that you guys can enjoy the music, and we work hard to keep you grooving.

There’s nothing we love more than music and you guys. To keep getting better, though, we’d like to ask for your help. No, we don’t need to borrow your car to pick up our Snuggie from the dry cleaner–we just want your ideas, suggestions, and criticisms to help us make Grooveshark better.

Why? We’re compiling a big list of what you guys want so that we know what direction to go in as we plan updates to Grooveshark. This is an open appeal–and if you’ve got something you’ve always wanted, now’s the time!

Have a really cool idea for a new feature? We’d love to hear it. Some super-annoying problem with the way Grooveshark works–let us know. Got some crazy idea you’ve been brewing in the back of your mind, but never felt like sharing? Share! We want to know!

There are three ways to help us out:

1) Suggest an idea on our GetSatisfaction page

2) Send me an email! If you have a lot of thoughts, or really want to hash out an idea, beam it directly to my inbox!

3) For you Twitter fanatics out there, blast us a short thought over to the Grooveshark Twitter. It’s a great way to send us some quick ideas, suggestions, or wants–and we can get back to you superfast.

Thanks so much in advance for all your help, everyone. As I always say, you guys mean the world to us–and are the only reason we do what we do. I can’t wait to hear your ideas, so come on! Send ‘em in!

Thanks,
Ben and the Grooveshark Gang

  1. 1) It would be nice to see people with similar tates
    2) Does Grooveshark learn about what I like and then improve/personalize the suggestions? If not, it would be a killer feature.

    3) Great website, keep up the good work!

  2. If you have an api that desktop programs can use, document it and make it easy to find so developers can make programs that can access grooveshark. Off the top of my head I would like to integrate with amarok.

  3. Thanks so much for the comments, guys! Seriously, you ROCK.

@LiviaLuca: We do have a feature that sort of shows you similar people. If you go to Grooveshark, click on “People”, there is the choice to see “People Similar to Me”. It’s not very well-defined right now, and we would definitely be smart to make this a more prominent feature. I think you’re right on the money with social discovery features like this.

Also, we cater to your tastes within individual Autoplay sessions but don’t retain that information with your individual profile. Good call! And thanks so much, we want to get better for you guys!

@Tony Our API just recently neared completion, and we’re testing it out with a couple of projects right now. I’d expect the full API with (at least some) documentation to come pretty soon–at which point you’ll be the first to know. We love this idea.

Thanks guys, and if you’ve got Grooveshark-loving friends, spread the word–we need your help!

    Love,
    Ben+Grooveshark

  4. Grooveshark is incredible! I would love to see some keyboard shortcuts, and maybe (and I realize this is a big maybe) integration with the desktop environment. I use Grooveshark in Fluid (http://fluidapp.com/) and it would be incredible to have keyboard shortcuts I could use to control Grooveshark while in a different app.

    Thanks a lot!

  5. Just curious — how many users does Grooveshark have?

  6. just curious… how many users does grooveshark have?

  7. Is it possible to create a playlist/widget and post it to a Facebook page? After reading the “Help” section in Facebook, I still don’t have a clear answer. Some say yes, some say no.

  8. i searched suggestions and this is the first one i found, sorry if its the wrong spot. i was thinking either you could revamp the visuals or offer different skins. i honestly dont know when this website was created so i understand if work is in the progress, just leaving my two cents.

  9. I know this is quite a bit later in the year than the original post, but I also have a few suggestions.
-Is there any way to use the favorites to compare people in the “people similar to me”?
-There could be an option to keep your sidebar thing (when you access your account and info about songs) open while also showing the scrollbar.
-While you browse through people, I have noticed that you just loop around the first few names. It would be good to have a search just for users.
-Have people who upload songs included in the info when you click on the song’s “i” icon. (It helps people to know who uploads their favorite music and find people with similar tastes.
-I’ve seen this before (though it’s super advanced) a colour slider that changes the website colour. Having a flash website, that might be a fun option. Also, you could try the skins idea where there are preset skins. The widgets option does that kind of thing super well!
-Could you try to add grooveshark as a facebook application? I’m sure they’d support that.
Thanks for getting user suggestions! I hope they help make Grooveshark better :)
