Here's what we're saying.

The party rages til October on that fairytale island, Ibiza. Unfortunately for me,every airline is going bankrupt and they’re passing the suck on to me. As luck would have it, I stumbled on a slew of music festivals here in Florida. Even more awesome: FREE parties. Sponsored, impromptu or whatever - who cares. They’re free!

Jemaine Gets Hitched (News Break)

by Rachel Knox August 19th, 2008

Sorry, ladies.

If you, like me, have lusted over the boys from Flight of the Conchords since the first episode, your world just got a little sadder. According to WENN, Jemaine Clement married his longtime girlfriend Miranda Manasiadis in Los Angeles earlier this week. Bret McKenzie, Clement’s co-star, and “a small group of friends” attended the ceremony at a registry office.

Don’t get too upset, though- Bret is still single, Season 2 of FOTC is underway, and you can listen to Jemaine’s sweet crooning as many times as you want while crying next to his shrine.

On second thought, Mel and I might be alone on that one.

Rock Stars And Their Famous Guitars

by Jack DeYoung August 14th, 2008

While rock stars usually have a litany of guitars at their disposal, many keep one special guitar that they’ve had since the beginning. While the other guitars are certainly passable, there is a special feeling evoked when a legendary guitarist unfurls his storied instrument. This guitar might not sound especially great or even be of the highest caliber, but it’s still an essential part of its owners iconography.

Some of these guitars now reside in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while others are still taking a beating out on the road. Here are some guitars that have managed to become just as much a part of the rock star legend.

Musicians Who Should Probably Retire

by Jack DeYoung August 13th, 2008

I woke up in a cantankerous mood today. There’s something about sleeping on an inflatable mattress and knowing you don’t have enough gas to get to work that doesn’t sit well. So forgive me if this blog contains levels of unmitigated vitriol not seen since audiences saw The Mummy 3.

A few months ago Rachel gave us crap about being “too mean” on this blog. I stupidly consented with her “we should love everyone” rationale (she probably used The Jonas Brothers as an example), and toned down the cruelty. Well, that era is over and thanks to hearing a Madonna song on the radio, I feel the need to list musicians and reasons why they should retire.

Let’s face it, if any of these people quit, no one would really be upset for over a week. Our airwaves wouldn’t be inundated with their last gasp attempts to maintain relevancy, and we’d all probably be in a better mood. Here’s the list:

The Weirdest Guitars In the World

by Jack DeYoung August 12th, 2008

There is always that one guy at a party who REALLY wants to play guitar. Nobody particularly wants to hear him play, but as a party goer you’re contractually obligated to indulge him for at least a couple of minutes. Even if he’s incredibly proficient, you’re still kind of annoyed because the only thing you really wanted to do was drink a few beers and watch Point Break for the fourth time that week.

Luckily for everyone, some guitar designers have gone against the grain and created guitars that are so strange and captivating that it’s impossible not to want to see them in action. A lot of them look extremely cool, but make very little sense. However, they’re so strange that they should distract everyone from your somewhat mediocre riffing skills.

Here are some of the stranger guitars ever created:

Weekend Stumblings

by Beth Condra August 11th, 2008

I came across a few random things over this weekend that mesmerized me:

1. The Hip-Hop Grannies

I’ve always wondered when our generation is in our 70s and 80s, will we still be listening to and dancing to hip-hop and rap? It’s a bizarre thought, especially since today’s 80 somethings look down on the musical genre. But we grew up with it, so will we be playing Snoop Dog and Pharrell albums to our grandkids and teaching them dance moves?
