How to Listen to Music on your Bicylce, in Style.

I gave up my car last year when I moved to Philadelphia, and relied heavily on the subway, cabs, and walking.  When I decided to move back to the small city of Gainesville, I refused to buy a car since I realized one can really get around in life without one. I have since depended completely on my bicycle.

This has presented two problems.  One, I constantly get caught in rainstorms on my bike.  Two, I have no way of listening to music.  Well, I could, with headphones, but this is illegal, and I really don’t want to get into another bike accident.

What are some other alternatives to play music while bike riding?

The Trainwreck That Was The 2008 VMA’s

I don’t even know where to start.

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards show was, much like mortifyingly inappropriate host Russell Brand’s hair, a tangled, nappy-ass mess. Brand’s crude humor (hello! you cannot make sexual jokes about 16-year-olds!) and over-the-top theatrics made me feel totally queasy, and I am actually a pretty unbiased offender. I can say I’d totally take the JoBro’s v-cards, but I’m not a public figure, and not on national television. Icky.

Inspiring Rock Music and Community Organizers Alike!

For those of you that have known me, or are friends with me on Facebook and Twitter, you have read how upset I have been over the belittlement towards Barack Obama and his work as a community organizer, as stated at the Republican National Convention last week by two so-called prominent political figures.

This Week In Techno

by John Bauer September 5th, 2008

Being the fanatic Groovesharkuser that you are, you’ve already memorized the About page and each of our Bios, and you already know we’re in Gainesville, where a penchant for burning couches after championships earned us the rank of #1 party school in the nation. This massive surge of fun-loving students has provided the perfect theatre to observe the best and worst possible outcomes of a back to school rave.

Noel Gallagher on Radiohead:

They’re [Radiohead] middle-class boys worrying about pushing an envelope somewhere, and all that carbon footprint and all that bollocks. Every time there’s a polar bear on his tiptoes on an ice cube in the middle of the Antarctic, you know whose fault that is? Rock stars’. That’s their fault. Any time there’s food running out somewhere– ‘Let’s do a gig. That’ll sort it out. Let’s do a big fucking gig. Let’s fly everybody in from all over the world and pontificate to poor people about how they should be saving the planet.’ Go fucking kiss my ass. It’s very easy to just say, ‘We’re going to become difficult now and challenge our audience.’ I like my audience. They paid for my swimming pool. I’m not fucking challenging anybody.”

Owned.

More Updates: Imagine

by Ben Westermann-Clark September 5th, 2008

Tonight from 11 PM until 6 AM (EST), we’ll be making some updates to Grooveshark Beta and Grooveshark Lite. Nothing too scary! The only thing you might notice is that some images (like album art) might be offline, and a few songs might be slow/unavailable.

Hopefully not, but we’ve gotta warn you of the possibility!

Love,
Ben
