There’s nothing I love more than a classic hit from the days when rock ‘n’ roll was at its purest. Some of my favorite all-time songs came from decades before I was born, and you know what? I’m cool with that.
Still, I won’t sit here and lie to you, no matter who you are. Every so often, I hear a cover and — gasp! — like it more than the original.
I don’t always feel good about it. But I usually like the way it sounds, and that’s good enough for me.
1. Wonderwall - Ryan Adams (originally Oasis)
2. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley (originally Leonard Cohen)
3. All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (originally Bob Dylan)
4. Reason To Believe - Rod Stewart (originally Tim Hardin)
5. I Will Survive - Cake (originally Gloria Gaynor)
6. So You Want To Be A Rock ‘n’ Roll Star - Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers (originally The Byrds)
7. The Man Who Sold The World - Nirvana (originally David Bowie)
8. Mad World - Gary Jules (originally Tears For Fears)
9. It’s My Life - No Doubt (originally Talk Talk)
10. Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door - Eric Clapton (originally Bob Dylan)
Enjoy some of my favorite covers ever redone. Which covers would you have added?

Agree with all of them with the *possible* exception of #10. Good post dude.

Yeah great post!
I really adore Blackbird (originally by the Beatles) performed by Doves. It’s much more produced (I totally adore the 100 seconds reverb… The sound just keeps building up and building up. Great)

Great list, just thought I’d add a couple of songs off the top of my head:
- Tori Amos - Famous Blue Raincoat (originally Leonard Cohen)
- Dianne Reeves - In Your Eyes (originally Peter Gabriel, although his version is absolutely amazing as well: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ur-pPIv8Rws)
Can’t think of any more right now, but once again - great list :-)
