In London, a man and woman have been charged with conspiracy to supply Amy Winehouse with cocaine and ecstasy (MDMA). Photos of nefarious footage showing Winehouse smoking crack cocaine were published in The Sun newspaper in January.
The two dealers, John Blagrove and Cara Burton, were released on bail Thursday until their next court appearance on July 1. The charges on Blagrove and Burton came from a video showing Winehouse doing the drug, yet Winehouse will not be charged in the case.
This is not Winehouse’s first encounter involving drug abuse in her personal life. In August 2007, the “Rehab” singer was hospitalized due to an overdose of drugs including heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and alcohol in an event she described as “terrifying.” She was forced to cancel show dates in both the UK and U.S. because of her ill health and erratic behavior.
Not long after her hospital stint, Winehouse and her husband were both photographed with bruises following what seemed to be a domestic dispute. Winehouse insisted that the wounds were self-inflicted and the incident has left many, including family and friends, fearing that the two might be suicidal.
