When did Rolling Stone start pandering to the Wal-Mart demographic?

Here is a direct quote from the article:
“Another rare feat of the Eagles’ is that the four of them — Henley, Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit — are all around 60, and they’re still making vital, culturally resonant, new music that sounds just like the Eagles. Yes, the Eagles.”
Wait, really? Their music is vital AND culturally resonant? Sure, their latest album Long Walk Out of Eden sold extremely well at Wal-Mart, but it was almost universally panned critically. Furthermore, when Rolling Stone initially reviewed Long Road Out of Eden, they gave it a less than stellar 3 1/2 stars. What has changed in the last month that made this album so important? Did Don Henley’s rants about corporate greed become less hypocritical as the band charged $189.50 for tickets to their shows?
Hell, even Don Henley himself backhandedly admits in this cover story that Long Road Out Of Eden kind of sucks and they buckled under corporate pressure.
“The album would have been better if we’d taken another six months,” says Henley. “There are some weak spots. I still think it should have been a single album. But I lost that one. There were four or five more songs that were good but not finished. But we wanted to get it out for Christmas. Again, the dictates of business.”
