Not Accepted Everywhere

Since January, Snoop Dogg has regained access into the UK. A judge threw out the ban placed on his visa after a brawl he was involved in at a London airport in 2006. But Britain’s Boarder Agency can’t give him a break–they’re now making a second attempt to deny Snoop Dogg access into its country.

Snoop is also having visa trouble in Australia. The country’s Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews said, “He doesn’t seem the sort of bloke we want in this country,” Andrews told Sydney’s Macquarie Radio.

Other artist’s who have had trouble obtaining visas:

M.I.A.

She was banned from the US in 2006. Why her visa was denied is unclear. However, her politically controversial lyrics, specifically in her song “Sunshowers,” and her father’s affiliation with a terrorist group known as the Tamil Tigers are reason to speculate her ban. She was finally granted a visa in July of 2007.

Amy Winehouse

She has been banned from the US on numerous occasions. In 2007 she was banned after signing paperwork that, unbeknownst to her, turned out to be a written confession of drug possession. After regaining access, she was again banned in February after failing a drug test. The ban caused her to miss the 2008 Grammy’s, where she was scheduled to perform.

Velvet Revolver

The band was denied a visa into Japan for their tour in 2007. According to a post on the band’s Web Site, The Japanese immigration officials were taking exception with the backgrounds of various band members, which have included arrests. Under Japaneses law, anyone with a drug conviction can be denied a visa.
