In an interesting marital union of pop-rock and well, pop-punk, Ashlee Simpson, 23, and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, 28, are engaged. Maybe their kids will turn out as musically gifted popular-punk-rocksters. Or they will cancel each other out and leave their children musically challenged. And what color will their hair be? Between Pete and Ashlee’s by-the-week dye jobs, it’s anyone’s guess.
Just a few days after Beyonce and Jay-Z announced their own engagement, happy couple Ashlee and Pete wrote in a blog post of their own engagement. The singer’s reps confirmed the news.
“We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I,” Simpson posted late Wednesday on FriendsorEnemies.com. “Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged.” The engagement to be married came after the promise ring Wentz gave Simpson during the Christmas season.
Even with the reputation of being overly controlling of his girls and disapproving of their relationship choices, Ashlee’s father and manager Joe Simpson told People.com that he is “totally happy [and] so excited to have Pete as part of [our] family. We are blessed,” he reportedly said.
Looks like big sister Jessica also shares her dad’s sentiments, saying, “My sister is overflowing with joy. Pete is an incredible soul. They naturally bring out the best in each other. I couldn’t be happier.”
Heck, even Ashlee’s ex-boyfriend Ryan Cabrera put in his two cents, telling Usmagazine.com, “I think they’re really good together. I met [Wentz] a couple times, and he was really nice and intelligent, so I was like, ‘Very cool, go for it!’ ”
Hopefully in the salmon-esque death cycle that celebrity couples seem to face, this couple will persevere and live happily ever after. Or at least last longer than Ashlee’s latest hair color.
