Grooveshark has just undergone one of its biggest updates ever. Namely:
- Grooveshark’s entire content base has been reorganized, and will continue to get better from here. We now have a system that allows copies of a song to be grouped together underneath a single song identifier, meaning the days of wading through tons of copies of a given song when browsing through an artist or album listing are almost over. We’ve still got some cleaning up to do, but we’re getting there. Check out an example of this new grouping system in action if you’re interested.
- Various file qualities and types are easily browsable now, through this same interface described above. If you prefer OGG or FLAC, now you can pick and choose your appropriate version right from the File Lists on Grooveshark song pages.
- A new editing system is on the way, which will allow much more community control over the content grouping process. You’ll probably still notice some mistagged files floating around—their numbers have already been cut by at least 30% automatically, and we aim to cut them even further through community-driven song mapping, album corrections, etc.
- Grooveshark’s backend code has been overhauled entirely. SQL queries are more efficient, and our PHP has been drastically improved and restructured (yeah, we completely rewrote it).
We do expect some issues, as this update is extensive and affects all aspects of Grooveshark. If you run into any problems, please submit bug reports to feedback@escapemg.com.
To all new users signing up today—we’re going to be holding off letting new users in for a few days, while our current users test the system and ensure its stability. Sit tight!
To all our dedicated users, thank you for putting up with the delays in library scanning for the past week! We expect library scanning to resume in about 48 hours, once we’ve ensured that the surge of incoming requests won’t completely take down our servers. :-)
