Foo Fighters (Kind of) Rock New Zealand! Thousands Bamboozled!

Having just played a show in Glendale, Arizona, it didn’t seem likely that Foo Fighters would make that ever so common Arizona-New Zealand commute to play a one-off acoustic gig. However, the people of Auckland, New Zealand were so blinded by Grohlmania that they flocked to a local radio station yesterday under the promise of an intimate, albeit unlikely Foo Fighters gig. The radio station had promised a “secret Foo Fighters” show in the hopes of bamboozling “about 50 people” into attending a performance of the station managers playing Foo Fighters records on a boom box.

The April Fools gag backfired terribly, and the station was surrounded by thousands of eager New Zealanders chomping at the bit for an acoustic version of “Everlong”. The country’s citizens called in sick to work and flew in from all over the island, much to the surprise of the station’s management.

“(It caused) absolute carnage”, said Program Director Brad King.

“I arrived back in the country today after a week long holiday and heard of the announcement. This is an April Fools gag, dreamed up by our over enthusiastic promotions department and completely untrue. On behalf of The Rock I sincerely apologize for this mis-information. Contracts have been terminated, and heads have rolled. This is what happens when fools plan April Fools jokes.”

Don’t dream, it’s NOT over yet Foo fans of Oceania. Grohl and company will be making the trek to Australia on April 21st where they will tour the country until May 2nd. They will more than likely show up this time.
