The Mailbox: Community Use

Shark At Large October 3rd, 2007

Once again, the compensation algorithm has come up. The question, are you compensated for helping the community out by fixing tags, making play lists etc…

Mailbox

From Kat,

I remember you guys mentioned that users also get rewarded for fixing things like song titles, or adding artist/album information to all those songs currently listed with unknown artist/unknown album. I was wondering if this was already implemented in the current version and if you could maybe give some details about how it works (e.g. how much do you get for correcting how many tags).

From the grape vine,

In the relatively near future we will have an algorithm in place that “compensates” our top users by putting them higher on the share list.

What I mean by that is if someone is trying to download a track, and there are two versions by two different users we need a way to decide who gets compensated for the purchase. This “share list” (not the actual name) arbitrates that by giving our most active users priority.

The short version. The more you use the system, the more likely someone will download a track from you, the more you can potentially make in compensation.

Thanks for the question Kat, keep them coming!
