Fresh off the resounding success of his Bob Dylan documentary No Direction Home, famed filmmaker Martin Scorsese has announced plans to direct a similar film about the life of the late George Harrison. Dipping into archives supplied by Harrison’s family, Scorsese intends to touch on Harrison’s affinity for eastern spiritualism.

“George Harrison’s music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I’m looking forward to delving deeper,” Scorsese said.

Harrison of course played guitar in a quasi-famous British Invasion group that found moderate success in the 1960’s called The Beatles. Harrison was labeled “the quiet one”, and enjoyed critical and commercial success as a solo artist. Former Beatles’ Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have both agreed to contribute to the project.

Scorsese has directed numerous music films including The Last Waltz. He recently won an Oscar for his direction on the film The Departed. Last year rumors ran rampant that Scorsese would be working on a sequel to No Direction Home, but it appears his time will now be spent on this new, not yet titled project.
