Make Music However You Want To

Joshua Bonnain August 24th, 2007

There are plenty of musicians out there, perfectly talented and in possession of what very few can do with sound.

Thanks to Create Digital Music, now you do music your own way. From the site, some highlights include:

- Eric Johnson had a pair of Theremin-like crutches, a work in progress (but already a big hit).

- Some gentleman whose name I missed had a wild and wonderful synth built into a FireWire drive case — think that may have been, erm, Nick? If you’re out there, give a holler and I’ll update this story with details.

- Peter Swimm brought his NES, GBA, and Linux-based GP2x for some chiptune previews of a concert tonight at The Tank. Best of all: Vegavox, the first-ever NES cartridge album. (I heard a couple of “I gotta get me one of those” emanate from the audience.)

There are pictures to accompany the creative process of those who do whatever they want to create their idea of a perfect sound. Based in Brooklyn, “Handmade Music” is a collaborative effort with both Etsy.com and Make Magazine. Soon to be added to the site are a set of videos to further help you understand how the music is made. Enjoy!
